Bill Nye invades BTC

    • When: 08/16/17
    • QIC: Bill Nye
    • The PAX: Honey Pot, Chisel, Jack Hammer, Clinger, 155, Money Bags, Ringo

The Pax were warned that I was working through some stuff. That I planned on being just a touch abusive.

They stayed anyways. The theme for the month was discipline. Hopefully they got a good feel for my thoughts and could use a touch of my message in their own lives as well. I attempted to summarize the message below but left out some of the most important things because they were natural and in the moment. You had to be there to get the full experience.

Essentially I made the point that F3 (like most things in life) was a choice that we made every day. It required discipline. I listed some things that I was struggling with at work and at home. And I pointed out that despite these continuous frustrations I was in control of my actions. We need to discipline ourselves- mind, body, and spirit. Even in our darkest hour there are those around us who need help that we are uniquely qualified to give. No one else can be the father to my children. No one else is the 8th grade science teacher to my students. The burden can be heavy but merkans and fellowship make a man strong enough to carry the weight. We bear the brunt of responsibility of our actions. Each one of those actions is an opportunity to get better. To impact others. To build small changes in the world around us. But, it has to be seen as such in order for lessons to be learned and iron to be sharpened.

Lastly, there is truth in the old adage- What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Every scar tells a story. But not all scars are on someone’s exterior. Mental and emotional trauma are real. Coming through them will change a person inexorably changed. But, unlike simple iron, humans have a will to focus and change themselves for the better. We are equipped to take on many struggles and emerge stronger and better on the other side. You can choose to do better, work harder, and make the best of where you are.

I used a lot of versus to make these points – Pardon the incoming wall of text:

Proverbs 13:24 “Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.”

10, 9, 8, 7 Burpees

Hebrews 12:11 “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Burpees

George Washington said
“Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak and esteem to all.”

James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that may be matured and complete, not lacking anything.

Bill Nye theme song again

1st Corinthians 10:13
No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.

I Wanted To Change The World
“When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengths me.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead. And, if you made it this far, thanks for your time.
