After we all finshed, YHC shared a Word about how in life many times we take 2 steps forward and then 1 step back. We do well working out then have an off week, we are really working on our relationships with our kids but then we blow up at them and yell, we’re doing well in our quiet time with the Father but then get busy or tired and let that time slide. Many times in our relationship with the Father, we tend to fall into this pattern and do well for a season, but then fall back and beat ourselves up for our inconsistency.  One thing that we need to remember is if we know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, then our past has been dealt with. Our sins are forgiven and remembered no more. Our future is secure – eternity with the Father. Satan is the one that brings up our past and throws it in our face, not the Father. The Father simply says, keep your eyes on me. He is much more concerned about the relationship he has with you in the current moment (remember, our past is forgiven and forgotten and our future is secure in Him.)

I am reminded of a scene at the end of The Hobbit where the dragon, Smaug, is attacking the city. Bard the Bowman is up on a tower attempting to shoot Smaug with an arrow. His son is there trying to steady the arrow on his shoulder but he is looking at the dragon who is taunting him and he is fearful and shaking. Bard tells his son, “Look at me.” When the son turns and looks in the father’s eyes, he is able to be calm and allow his father to shoot the arrow true and kill Smaug.

We too need to continually keep our eyes on the Father and let him handle what is going on around us.
