An evening message from Whitney asking if I can fill in for a worksacked Pax in the morning caused me to pause and look in the mirror. You see, I have a bit of OCD anal retentive attitude with regard to planning. My typical pre-Q routine is to go to the location at least 24-48 hours ahead of time, walk through the work out, analyze the weather, configure a message yada yada yada.  You know the guy…has to have everything in order, leave at 7:00 be at so and so at 7:10 etc…Yeah…well I am working on me…I have to because the M is nothing like that and to stay OCD would probably mean no M…so…compromise. With that said I asked myself…self…what should a good bell beat down bring…and again…to myself…I thought…soreness at least 2-3 days later. So…

That Thing

  • 20 SSH IC
  • 10 count stretch down the middle, to the right, to the left.
  • 10 count right arm across chest, 10 count left arm across chest.
  • 10 count right arm pat your back, 10 count left arm pat your back.

Mosey to the adjacent lot and partner up:

  • Partner 1 mosey across lot and back without bell, partner 2 start 300 2 arm curls…swap until a cumulative 300 is reached.
  • 300 2 hand triceps extensions.
  • 3oo chest presses.

Quick conversation about a strand with 3 cords. No matter your situation, you and M, you and 2.0s, you and job, you and parents, etc…these relationships are made stronger with the third cord…your faith and relationship with God.

  • 300 LBCs
  • 300 Squats…and Socrates reminds of the time and that we have an FNG to name.

Once back to the AO I take an opportunity to remind the Pax that these workouts are designed to make us stronger, allow us to run through the airport with our families luggage and not miss the plane, help us move a child into her first apartment, volunteer hours of our spare time in efforts that truly change the world. But it’s not just the physical aspect…half the battle we fight during the beat down is mental. If we tell ourselves we can do it then we can…if we choose the opposite then we get what we choose. Such is life…it’s not a bed of thorn less roses. Life comes with plenty of suck and if you are not mentally prepared to shield lock with your brothers and God then just like a work out you give up on…it will suck. So, in the immortal words of a friend or two of mine…”suck it up buttercup!”

Smiley Face.
