Miles & Guardrails, no rain

4 HIMS of the Rock Region gathered today at BTC on what looked like it might be a rainy morning for a run.  However, as we approached the appointed hour, the rain began to stop and we gathered under the tree near the shovel flag and the 4 of us set about to warm-up with some SSH and light stretching.  I informed the men that our plan for this morning was to run 5-6 miles circling to Manchester and once or twice around the BTC loop.  After we were done stretching, we moseyed out

The Thang –

We started with a good pace around YTC and headed out the back entrance towards First Baptist Church.  Mumble chatter was good as we noticed the earlier rains had cooled things off a bit.  The cooler temps were a nice replacement for the rain as we talked about looking forward to fall.  Running past First Baptist Church and crossing Dave Lyle, we headed down the trail to Manchester carefully laughing that none of us had a headlamp.  We ran a brisk lap around the perimeter on the running trails and then headed back to the entrance and headed back where we just came from.  It was here that the conversation turned to more serious topics such as kids, life, growing up and absent fathers.  JAG shared with us some of the cases he comes across and a common denominator is absent fathers, a crisis in our country.  When men are engaged in the children’s lives, they help provide guardrails for kids.  I shared with the men that I didn’t grow up with a father present but I had a strong Grandmother who kept me in check.  A good reminder that no matter our age, we need guardrails to help keep us on the straight & narrow.  Whetstone is another great way to for us to help share accountability.  Next we headed back around to the front of YTC and Herbie led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  We then crossed over and did a lap around the BTC lake and made a stop for some planks & calf raises.  We stopped at the hill entering the BTC side of Tech Park and did 3 hill repeats jailbreak style.  Great push by the PAX.  Time was running short so we headed back to COT & closed out the morning with Ab Lab.  We concluded the morning with a few announcements along with prayers & praises.  Thanks Iron Sight for the opportunity to lead today.  It’s always an honor to be asked to do so
